The Jolly Onion is Back and Better Thank Ever!
Chef Armand Give Us The Inside Scoop –
For those native to the area, The Jolly Onion was a local icon in the Black Dirt region. Its origins date back to 1965 when a local onion farmer, Vincent Kosuga, first opened its doors.
If you google Kosuga, you will find that he may be considered infamous for manipulating the onion futures market – so much so the Onion Futures Act was passed to prevent such activities. Pretty Cool History!
Despite this The Jolly Onion proved successful for decades. After Hurricane Sandy hit, most thought the restaurant was unsalvageable. Surprisingly, the structure faired better than most.
After being closed for some time, Thomas Mastrantoni and Chef Armand Vanderstigchel reopened the doors in December of 2018 to continue the legacy.
